Tear Gas Again in Tahrir

.
CAIRO: Protests in Tahrir go on, the current series have entered their tenth day. The chemical weapon 'Tear gas' (more technically 'lachrymatory agent') these days can consist of a number of organic and inorganic substances. Obviously - quite apart from what it does to people - what is in it is of concern if clouds, or even traces of it are wafting into a museum containing delicate objects like the Egyptian Museum just off Tahrir Square. According to Wikipedia "common lachrymators include OC, CS, CR, CN (phenacyl chloride), nonivamide, bromoacetone, xylyl bromide and syn-propanethial-S-oxide ". Basically, most of them contains substances which will attack antiquities - like acids and chlorides.
