Photo of Part of the Lenborough Coins before cleaning

Art Daily has an interesting photo:
Part of the Lenborough Hoard as received at the British Museum
before cleaning commenced © The Trustees of the British Museum.

Why are the coins so distorted if they are said to be in nearly freshly-struck condition? The finder originally reported (Lorcan Lovett, 'Metal detector fan unearths 5,000 Anglo-Saxon coins in Buckinghamshire field', Getbucks 2 January 2014) seeing the coins arranged in 'row upon row of coins stacked neatly' - several of the coins as bagged seem stuck together in a manner which may confirm this. To what degree was the structure of the hoard documented and preserved in the manner in which the coins were bagged during the 'excavation'?
